This policy explains what information the Cognito Mind app ("the app") collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. The app is published by Johnston Software Development Inc., Durham Region, Ontario, Canada ("we", "us").
Information we collect
Account information
You can use the app in one of three ways:
- Google sign-in: we receive your name, email address and profile photo URL from your Google account.
- Email and password: we store your email address and the display name you choose. Your password is handled by Google Firebase Authentication and is never visible to us.
- Guest mode: an anonymous account is created with no name or email attached.
Game activity
When you play, the app saves your game sessions, scores, difficulty levels and performance statistics so you can track your progress over time.
Leaderboards
Leaderboards are off by default. If you choose to appear on them, your scores are shown to other players along with your avatar and your display name, or your real name only if you turn that option on. You can change these settings at any time in your profile.
Avatars
If you pick an avatar, the image is loaded from DiceBear (api.dicebear.com), a free avatar service. Your device requests the image directly, so DiceBear receives your IP address and a random avatar code, but not your name, email or game data.
How we use your information
- To create and secure your account
- To save your progress and show your statistics
- To display leaderboards, if you opt in
- To fix bugs and improve the app
We do not sell your information, show ads, or use your information for advertising.
Where your information is stored
Account and game data is stored using Google Firebase (Authentication and Cloud Firestore), operated by Google LLC. Data may be stored and processed on servers outside Canada, including in the United States. Data is encrypted in transit.
Sharing
We do not share your information with third parties, except with Google as the service provider that hosts the app's data, or when required by law. Avatar images are loaded from DiceBear as described above.
Deleting your account and data
You can delete your account at any time:
- In the app: open your Profile and tap Delete Account.
- On the web: submit our account deletion form, no app install needed.
Deleting your account removes your profile, game sessions, statistics and leaderboard entries. Deleting in the app takes effect right away. Web requests are processed within 30 days.
Guest progress is linked only to an anonymous ID, with no name or email. To delete it, sign in from your Profile, which keeps your progress, then tap Delete Account.
Retention
We keep your information while your account exists. When you delete your account, your data is permanently removed within 30 days.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Your rights
Under Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA) you may ask to access or correct the personal information we hold about you. Contact us using the details below.
Changes to this policy
